Areas of Expertise

R. Joseph Gunteski is the Shareholder-in-Charge of the Litigation Services and Business Valuation Group. He cofounded Cowan, Gunteski & Co. in 1982 with Donald Cowan . Mr. Gunteski has more than thirty years of experience in public accounting with a focus on Litigation Support Services. He is regularly appointed by Superior Court Judges throughout the State of New Jersey and/or retained by attorneys as an accounting expert in matrimonial and civil litigation matters. 

Mr. Gunteski analyzes the financial statements, income tax returns and other documents presented by the litigants and their attorneys, to formulate opinions on reported and unreported income, business valuations, cash flows analysis, lifestyle analysis and net assets available for equitable distribution in matrimonial matters. He also assists in settlement negotiations, provides expert witness testimony, and acts as the mediator and/or arbitrator to resolve disputes. 

He has been retained as an accounting expert and/or mediator/arbitrator in commercial litigation matters, including but not limited to matters involving fraud investigations, shareholder disputes, estate litigation, business acquisitions, dissolutions and valuations.   

A frequent public speaker on matrimonial accounting issues, Mr. Gunteski has addressed the Institute for Continuing Legal Education (ICLE), Family Law Section of the New Jersey State Bar Association, New Jersey Judicial Retreat, American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, Ocean County Bar Association, and Jersey Shore Collaborative Law Group
